Ouote from ‘Fast Food Nation’ by Eric Schlosser

Over the past 40 years, American’s eating habits have  been changed. This change has been intentionally designed by our food industry to encourage us to eat chemically altered food products that are cheap to produce and create enormous profits for food corporations. We have embraced these food products with great gusto.  We have become Pavlovian rats that been conditioned to eat anything we see  advertised on TV, even if it kills us.

I quote from Eric Schlosser, “Hundreds of millions of people buy fast food everyday without giving it much thought, unaware of the subtle and not so subtle ramifications of their purchases. They rarely consider where this food came from, how it was made, what it is doing to the community around them. They just grab their tray off the counter, find a table, take a seat, unwrap the paper, and dig in. The whole experiance is transitory and soon forgotten. I’ve written this book out of a belief that people should know what lies behind the shiny, happy surface of every fast food transaction. They shoud know what really lurks between those sesame-seed buns.  As the old saying goes: You are what you eat.”

Mr. Schlosser’s book is about the catastrophic health problems the fast food industry has unleashed upon the world. It is well written and very comprehensive. Most of all, it is a warning about how our diet in this country is destroying us.
